Job Summary The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Director of Engineering in managing all aspects of property engineering operations, including budget management, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation initiatives. This role is accountable for maintaining the building, facilities, and grounds with a strong focus on safety, security, compliance, and asset protection. The Assistant Chief Engineer oversees daily engineering operations, assigns and tracks work orders, manages contractors, and supports team performance. Through effective communication, leadership, and training, this position contributes to high levels of guest satisfaction, employee engagement, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Supporting Management of Property Operations * Supervises the distribution, tracking, and follow‑up of all repair and maintenance work orders * Ensures property policies and procedures are administered fairly and consistently * Assists in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs * Builds and maintains open, collaborative relationships with engineering staff and cross‑functional teams * Monitors timeliness, quality, and completion of maintenance and repair work * Assumes responsibility for Engineering operations in the absence of the Director of Engineering * Assists in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems * Ensures ongoing communication with employees regarding business objectives, expectations, and performance recognition * Recommends and coordinates additional services such as painting, repairs, renovations, and equipment replacement * Selects, orders, and purchases new equipment, supplies, and furnishings as required * Oversees day‑to‑day operations of the Engineering department and related areas Maintaining Property Standards * Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of facilities to determine required maintenance or repair work * Maintains accurate records, logs, and documentation in compliance with company standards and regulations * Operates generators, fire pumps, and other emergency systems as required * Provides 24/7 emergency response support when necessary * Performs hands‑on repairs on equipment such as refrigeration and laundry machinery when required * Ensures team members are provided with appropriate tools, equipment, supplies, and uniforms   Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service * Empowers engineering team members to deliver excellent guest service * Reinforces the importance of guest satisfaction in departmental meetings and daily operations * Promotes a culture of continuous improvement * Sets a positive, professional example in all guest and colleague interactions   Key Requirements * Minimum 2–4 years of progressive experience in an engineering or maintenance role within hospitality, resort, commercial, or industrial facilities * Previous supervisory or acting leadership exposure preferred * Experience with high‑occupancy properties, guest‑facing environments, or resorts is a strong advantage * Proven ability to manage contractors, vendors, and service providers * Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Building & Construction, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline OUR BENEFITS: * Exclusive staff discounts on hotel accommodation and food & beverage across all Marriott International properties for you, your family, and friends. * Career growth and professional development through Marriott’s global learning and training programs. * Access to the Employee Assistance Program supporting physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. * Employment with a globally recognized hospitality brand committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity. * Duty meals provided. * Associate transportation provided. * Prorated unused sick leave paid out at year‑end     At Marriott International, we are dedicated to being an equal opportunity employer, welcoming all and providing access to opportunity.
