ASSISTANT CIVIL ENGINEER
Pavement Engineering Inc. (“PEI”) is an engineering consultation firm that works throughout the state of California. PEI has an immediate opening for a full-time hourly employee to work as an Assistant/Junior Engineer at our office in Sacramento, California.
Job Tasks: The work would involve both engineering and technical duties in the field and in the office, and may include but not be limited to the following: materials sampling and testing
(soils, aggregate base, Portland Cement Concrete, asphaltic concrete); site measurement and field drafting; CAD drafting; site improvement design; quantity and cost estimating; technical specification and report drafting; construction testing and inspection; and other engineering & technician tasks that are basic and routine in nature.
Job Qualifications: Must have a BS in Civil Engineering or related field. No experience will be required (willing to train), but certification (including EIT) and prior experience would be a plus.
Familiarity and proficiency with basic AutoCAD commands is required. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English. Knowledge of basic math and calculator usage is essential.
An advanced proprietary computer data and information system requires computer experience for entering data into and proficiently accessing data from the system. Spreadsheet and word processing experience a plus. Employee would be required to be a positive, willing, contributing and adaptable member of the team.
Field Environment: May include considerable standing, walking, kneeling, bending and reaching as well as walking long distances on concrete and asphalt concrete pavements. Projects are typically located on roadways and in parking lots near automotive traffic. Field sampling and testing includes use of coring equipment and physically removing samples from pavement using shovels, picks, bars and posthole diggers. Conditions involve working in all kinds of weather, particularly in the sun, dust and wind. Construction sites may expose the technician to noise, exhaust, asphalt paving materials, cement and lime treatment materials, and quarry products used for paving. Inspection duties may include use of a nuclear testing gauge which will require lifting loads between 49 lbs. on a continuing basis (nuclear gauge) and occasional weights up to
100 lbs.
Office Environment: May include prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
