Assistant Coach, Men's Football, Huskie Athletics Huskie Athletics is seeking a full-time Assistant Coach for our nationally competitive Football program. This position’s primary responsibilities include Coordinating Special Teams, overseeing Academic Programming, and leading Community Engagement initiatives. In addition, support player development, recruiting, and grassroots development programming as needed. We have high standards, and it is incumbent on the successful candidate to provide exemplary leadership in all areas related to the Huskie Football program. About the Program: Huskie Football is one of the most storied and successful programs in Canadian university football, with over a century of sustained excellence in the Canada West conference. The program’s legacy includes a conference‑leading 22 Hardy Cup Championships, 12 national semifinal bowl victories, and three Vanier Cup titles. Competing out of Griffith Stadium in Nutrien Park on the USask campus, Huskie Football is supported by state‑of‑the‑art facilities that rank among the best in Canada. Nature of Work: Reporting functionally to the Head Football Coach and administratively to the Chief Athletics Officer, the Assistant Coach is a high‑profile leadership role within Huskie Athletics. This fast‑paced position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and comfort performing under pressure. The successful candidate will foster effective collaboration with the coaching staff and provide leadership and mentorship to student‑athletes and prospective recruits. Given the program’s national profile, the role carries a shared responsibility for upholding the reputation of Huskie Football, Huskie Athletics, and the University of Saskatchewan. The position involves travel and includes evening, weekend, and holiday work. Typical Duties or Accountabilities: The successful candidate will assume the role of Special Teams Coordinator, along with being an assistant position coach, preferably on the defensive side of the ball. The successful candidate will assume the role of Academic Coordinator, which will include collaborating with academic personnel throughout the University and ensuring resources and support are in place for academic success for our student-athletes. The successful candidate will lead our Community Engagement programming as well as assist with all grassroots programming, player development, and recruiting as needed. Work with head coach and coaching staff to serve as a resource to the student-athletes intent on delivering year-round skill development programming to develop highly competitive players. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Chief Athletics Officer. Education and Certification: A four-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution is preferred. Consideration will be given for equivalent experience; however, a degree is preferred. Must have National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certification in Safe Sport and Safe Contact. Must have or be working towards certification in Positional coaching and Coordinator. Possess or able to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED Level C qualifications. Must have a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. Experience: Must have experience with Special Teams, preferably both as a player and a coach, with preference going to previous coaching in a Special Teams Coordinator role. Have positional playing and coaching experience, preferably on the defensive side of the ball. Preference to former players and coaches with university and professional experience. Provincial and/or national coaching experience is a desirable asset. Skills: Excellent interpersonal, organizational, writing, and oral communication skills to communicate effectively at a variety of levels including officials of U Sports, administrators, staff, and coaches. Must understand the University of Saskatchewan’s standards for academic as well as athletic excellence. Along with the ability to work cooperatively with other University departments in a complex administrative environment. Ability to interact diplomatically with individuals of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Must have the ability to analyze situations and systems, identify problems, and implement solutions impartially and fairly. Ability to make decisions on immediate problems within prescribed scope of authority, based on knowledge of policies and procedures, including pertinent U Sports rules and regulations. Proficient in current football technology, specifically DV Sport and PQD.
