This individual will provide day-to-day oversight of the general ledger, fixed assets, reconciliations, and internal controls, while also serving as a point of guidance for junior accounting team members. The Assistant Controller will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, support system enhancements, and ensure alignment with GAAP and organizational policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience; background in energy, oil & gas, or complex operational industries is highly valued.
  • Previous experience in public accounting is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control best practices.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Deep knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis tools.
Responsibilities

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in financial reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard financial data and support audit readiness.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including depreciation schedules and related reconciliations.
  • Prepare internal financial reports and variance analyses to support leadership decision-making.
  • Collaborate with senior finance leaders to ensure reporting consistency across business functions.
  • Coordinate external audit activities and prepare supporting documentation for annual audits.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical resource for junior staff, promoting quality, accuracy, and development.
  • Contribute to the implementation, enhancement, and ongoing optimization of ERP systems—experience with Oracle Fusion or similar platforms is ideal.
  • Standardize accounting processes and documentation to ensure clarity and compliance across departments.
  • Support operational accounting tasks such as accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses and special projects to support evolving business needs.
