POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in bridging day-to-day accounting with long-term financial management. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Assistant Controller oversees bookkeeping operations, ensures compliance with accounting standards, and delivers accurate and timely financial reporting for both nonprofit and for-profit entities. This role provides leadership to the bookkeeping team, strengthens internal controls, and supports the organization in driving organizational financial health.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or 5 years relevant experience.
  • 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Experience managing staff and reviewing bookkeeping/accounting work.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (Odoo, Sage, NetSuite, SAP, Dynamics, or similar) and advanced Google Sheets/Excel skills.
  • Commitment to integrity, accuracy, clarity, tact, and confidentiality.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in nonprofit and small business accounting.
  • Tax preparation experience with personal, corporate, and partnership returns.
  • Experience in a multi-entity or consolidated accounting environment.
  • Familiarity with grant reporting and fund accounting.
