TITLE: Assistant Controller
DEPARTMENT: Finance
STATUS: Will consider Full-Time or Part-Time
The position is full-time 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Friday. Weekend or evening work is not expected but may occasionally be necessary to meet a specific deadline.
100% Premium paid benefits with an average of 30 hours a week
Part-time 25 hours - days/hours to be determined.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Controller position is accountable for: the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’ reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Managing processes, financial software, developing standards, audit, accounting, corporate finance, tracking budget expenses
  • QuickBooks financial skills, analyzing information, developing budgets, preparing rolling forecasts & performance management against set indicators.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Sage Accounting (AccPac) is valued.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written a must. Ability to motivate individuals to achieve their full potential and instill a ‘can-do’ positive attitude in peers and employees alike.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Accounting: 3 years of progressively responsible experience
  • Post-Secondary program in Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Management or equivalent
  • Professional accounting designation requirement (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA) preferred

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The purpose of this job description is to record the general duties & responsibilities of the position to guide the employee in his/her performance. This description is also intended for management use during performance evaluations and for the continual performance measurement & assessment. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

· Track and prepare reports on pre-determined corporate financial metrics
· Participate in discussions in selection of meaningful key performance indicators
· Perform the electronic task of preparing and submitting government weekly billing
· Perform reconciliation on billing/revenue accounts with receipts and ensure that rebilling, if needed, occurs in a timely fashion
· Perform reconciliation on the government and private accounts receivable accounts between the billing software and the accounting software
· Make recommendations to the Financial Controller on write offs of deemed uncollectable accounts
· Prepare journal entries for the Financial Controller based on incoming government remittances
· Prepare journal entries for the Financial Controller based on reconciliation and analysis
· Complete analysis for Balance Sheet account balances on a monthly basis
· Cross train on performing monthly bank reconciliations and daily cash flow reporting
· Participate in Strategic Development Sessions

· Other reasonable tasks provided by the Financial Controller

  • Develop financial and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) reports to support the goals of the organization
  • Provide costing revenue and information to senior executive team to support evidence-based decision making
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations (KPI’s)
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Aid in managing and producing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts
  • Provide for a system of management cost reports
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Assist departments in budget preparation
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Provide management with operational reports and trend analysis
  • Review leases, contracts, agreements, subcontracts, and licenses from accounting perspective
  • Participate in the accreditation process by being involved on teams as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
