We are seeking a highly driven Assistant Controller to support a growing and scaling organization in the IT services industry. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, understands operational finance within a services model, and enjoys building processes that scale. You will oversee core accounting functions, manage both domestic and offshore team members, and play a key role in strengthening financial operations, audit readiness, and revenue accuracy. This is not a purely oversight role- we need someone who can roll up their sleeves while also leading and developing a team. This position is remote; however, candidates must be located in the Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia (DMV) area. Local presence is required to support leadership collaboration, periodic in-person meetings, and ongoing alignment as the company continues to grow and scale. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Manage and develop accounting staff, including offshore resources Oversee performance, workflow distribution, and process accountability Ensure timely and accurate completion of all accounting activities Build scalable team structures to support company growth Core Accounting Oversight Oversee General Ledger (GL) integrity and month-end close process Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) Oversee billing operations within a services-based revenue model Ensure accurate revenue recognition, particularly within project-based or time & materials environments Support and maintain strong internal controls Financial Operations & Systems Experience with Unanet strongly preferred Partner with operations and project teams to ensure financial accuracy Improve reporting processes and financial visibility across the organization Maintain audit-ready documentation and support external financial audits Process Improvement & Scaling Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements Help modernize financial workflows to support company growth Drive automation and standardization where possible Support financial infrastructure improvements as the company scales Audit & Compliance Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies Strengthen documentation and controls in preparation for growth or M&A activity (if applicable) Oversee Sales & Use Tax compliance, including filings, reconciliations, and jurisdictional requirements Requirements 7+ years of progressive accounting experience Prior experience in leadership or supervisory role Strong understanding of services-based accounting models Proven experience managing offshore accounting resources Deep knowledge of GL, AP, AR, billing, and revenue recognition Experience supporting financial audits Strong process improvement mindset Advanced Excel skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in IT services, MSP, or professional services environment Hands-on experience with Unanet CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required What We’re Looking For A builder - someone who has supported a company during growth or scaling A leader who can manage people but is not afraid to get into the details A process-oriented thinker who can improve systems without overcomplicating them Someone comfortable operating in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment Why join our winning team? The salary range for this position is $115,000 -$130,000/year. The base salary range for this position is an estimate and may vary depending on relevant factors, including but not limited to education, experience, certifications, and skillset, as well as internal equity and business considerations. This range reflects base pay only and does not include bonuses, incentives, benefits, or other forms of compensation that may be offered as part of the total compensation package.
