This role supports the oversight of day-to-day accounting operations, field auditing activities, and financial close processes while maintaining strong internal controls and standardized accounting policies. The Assistant Controller plays a key role in driving operational excellence, improving accounting systems, and supporting organizational goals through disciplined financial management. Key Responsibilities Supervise accounting staff on a day-to-day basis, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements Help implement, maintain, and continuously improve financial closing and reporting processes Partner with the CFO and Controller on the budgeting process as needed Research operational and accounting process issues and collaborate with systems teams and field auditors to resolve them Ensure daily cash deposits are properly accounted for and reconciled Monitor and reconcile credit card activity and investigate variances in a timely manner Prepare sales tax returns, underground storage tank tax returns, business censuses, and other regulatory filings Manage rebate accruals and collection activities Perform monthly fuel closings and prepare fuel margin reports Support company charitable events and maintain related bookkeeping Draft and update accounting policies, procedures, and forms as directed Generate monthly and ad-hoc financial reports for leadership Administer accounting policies, including interpretation, implementation, and employee training Maintain balance sheet accounts and perform monthly reconciliations to identify and correct discrepancies Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned to support department and company objectives a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required) Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or professional certification such as CPA or CMA (preferred) Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Assistant Controller role within a large-scale retail or similarly complex organization Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder partnership skills Proven ability to influence outcomes and drive engagement while contributing positively to company culture Passion for data-driven decision making and continuous process improvement Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting systems (spreadsheets, word processing, presentation tools) Experience analyzing reports and working with databases; SQL skills are a plus Strong knowledge of accounting principles, cash posting, tax reporting, general ledger, AP/AR, banking, and income tax concepts Highly organized with strong time management and prioritization skills Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities Comfortable working independently while maintaining accountability Why Join Us Opportunity to play a key leadership role within a growing accounting organization Exposure to cross-functional collaboration and executive leadership Meaningful impact on financial operations, compliance, and process improvement Pay for this position is $125,000-$160,000 per year DOE Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance 401K Plan Paid Time Off
