ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Location: 9094 Cavanagh Road (Ashton, Ontario)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Controller to join the Finance team for our Patten Home Division. This position plays a key role in supporting the company’s financial operations, real estate transactions, and overall business strategy through accurate reporting, sound financial analysis, and diligent process administration.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in an accounting or finance role, demonstrating a solid understanding of core financial principles and practices.
  • Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) or equivalent degree from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all deliverables.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to take on responsibilities beyond the scope of defined duties as needed.
  • Strong independent work ethic, paired with the ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal departments and external partners.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and accountability when handling sensitive or confidential information.

Responsibilities
  • Supports financial operations of Patten Homes through the maintenance of up-to-date cash flow forecasts and accurate financial reporting.
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reconciliations.
  • Prepare supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the external auditors as necessary
  • Posting journal entries for accrued expenses and revenue transactions
  • Manages tax filings (HST), offers ERP system support, and facilitates financial components of real estate transactions
  • Provide financial analytical support for management decision making processes by preparing regular and ad hoc reports as needed
  • Provide information requested by solicitors for completion of all property transactions including coordination of document execution and closings
  • Assist with the preparation of forecasts
  • Administers the payables process and facilitate the setup of new accounts and budgets, as well as review the bank reconciliation
  • Administers financial components of real estate transactions, manages construction draws, and ensures proper documentation for building compliance, including permits and warranties.
  • Prepare and process payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
