SKILLS:

  • Previous experience is essential, preferable in a care home or similar setting.
  • Proficient in food safety practices and regulations ensuring all meals are served at the correct consistencies as per Speech & Language recommendations.
  • Food Safety Level 1 & 2.
  • Culinary expertise with a strong knowledge of food preparation, various cooking techniques and experience of using a range of catering equipment.
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure meals are provided on time.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills to effectively manage day to day kitchen operations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain high quality standards.
  • Baking - a desired criteria but not essential.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to IDDSI guidelines. Prepare meals in line with residents’ dietary requirements in co-ordination with the care home team, considering specific restrictions or allergies.
  • Maintain an organised kitchen environment.
  • Monitor food quality and presentation.
  • Uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards following a cleaning schedule whilst complying with food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Manage stock, including ordering and inventory control.
  • Ensure all foods are stored correctly.
  • Provide supervision to kitchen staff fostering a supportive work environment, ensuring adherence to proper food handling and preparation procedures.
  • Willingness to train and mentor junior kitchen staff members.
  • Complete elearning as part of essential training.
  • Attend face to face training sessions.
  • Adhere to Rylands Nursing Home Health and Safety policies co-operating with all staff to maintain safe systems and a safe workplace.
