Description Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking ASSISTANT COSTUME SHOP MANAGER for their production of Animal Wisdom by Heather Christian at The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street. The position will begin around March 9, 2026, through the end of June 2026. About Signature Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices. About the Position Signature Theatre Company seeks a Seasonal Assistant Costume Shop Manager for its production of Animal Wisdom by Heather Christian. This position supports the Costume Shop Manager in overseeing all costume, hair, wig, makeup, and wardrobe needs for the production. The schedule varies and will include evenings and weekends The majority of work will take place in March, April, and early May, with an anticipated schedule of approximately 40 to 50 hours per week during peak production periods. This is a non-exempt, seasonal position reporting to the Costume Shop Manager with administrative oversight from the Production Manager and General Manager. Requirements The Assistant Costume Shop Manager is responsible for supporting the costume shop manager with the following responsibilities: Purchasing, tracking, and returning costume items, including rentals Assisting with management and tracking of show and shop budgets and expenditures Scheduling and attending fittings and measurement sessions Supporting the hiring and supervision of stitchers; monitoring workflow, quality, and time management Managing the flow of alterations and craft work within the shop Maintaining accurate show and shop paperwork, including schedules, budgets, and daily tracking documents Providing sewing and craft support as needed Ensuring costume elements are executed with a high level of craftsmanship, on schedule, and within budget parameters Coordinating ongoing costume maintenance during the run in collaboration with wardrobe and run crew, including dry cleaning, repairs, and hair/wig maintenance Other duties as assigned by the Costume Shop Manager Preferred Skills and Experience One or more years of experience as a Costume Shop Manager, Assistant Costume Shop Manager, or in a related role The desire to step into a costume shop manager position Strong understanding of costume design and production processes Working knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in a professional costume shop Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and time management abilities Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, artisans, and production staff Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace Positive attitude, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment Compensation This is a non-exempt part-time position compensated at $31 per hour.
