POSITIONS PURPOSE The part-time assistant distance coach provides instruction and leadership to student-athletes under the direction of the head coach. The part-time assistant coach is primarily responsible for teaching proper techniques and skill development in the area of distance running. Position responsibilities include planning and executing instructional practice sessions, facilitating discipline-specific lessons and attending meets. Other responsibilities may include monitoring academic progress of student athletes, recruitment of student athletes and other athletic support functions. JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS * Planning and conducting practices for athletes competing in the distance events * Evaluation and recruitment of qualified prospective student athletes * Ability to work weekdays and weekends as needed * Design planning, supervising and executing specific training plans for Cross Country and Track and Field distance team * Assist with driving vehicles to and from competition sites * Assist with fund-raising projects for track and field team and the department * Assist with maintaining accurate records of expenses incurred while working within the provided budget * Assist with maintaining daily and yearly inventory of equipment, uniforms and supplies * Other duties as assigned. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES * A bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred. * A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required; One year of college level athletic coaching is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS * The position requires the ability to stand for an extended period of time. * The ability to lift 20-30 pounds. * The ability to travel long distances via automobile and/or airplane. * A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
