DESCRIPTION
The NYU School of Professional Studies seeks an Assistant Dean of Adjunct Faculty Advancement, effective Summer 2025. The successful candidate will also fill a Clinical Faculty position in one of the School’s academic units. The rank of the faculty position and the home academic unit will be determined based on the candidate’s academic expertise, experience and qualifications.
The School of Professional Studies is actively seeking candidates who are distinguished academics and/or professionals, who have exemplary experience in pedagogy and adjunct faculty management, and who can teach courses in one or more of its academic units. The School employs over 1,000 adjunct faculty per academic year in the following areas: Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies, Center for Global Affairs, Division of Programs in Business, Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tisch Institute of Global Sport, Schack Institute of Real Estate, and the Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media.
Reporting to the SPS Vice Dean of the Faculty, the successful candidate will review, revise, and maintain policies and procedures relevant to adjunct advancement, specifically regarding teaching excellence. They will work closely with all academic units to develop systems and processes to support continuous evaluation of adjuncts as educators. They will advise and participate in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding and orientation of adjuncts across SPS. And they will oversee adjunct advancement processes such as teaching reviews, adjunct professional development fund, and adjunct faculty rank promotion.
The successful candidate will have ample teaching experience, demonstrated teaching excellence, and will teach within one of SPS’s graduate and/or undergraduate programs. Ideal candidates will have experience interpreting and adhering to the terms of a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Candidates should have experience working with a diverse base of professionals and teaching a diverse population of students. This full-time position carries a renewable nine-month faculty contract and a concurrent twelve-month administrative appointment as assistant dean. The initial contract will be for two years.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $135,000. The additional compensation range is $50,000 to $60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will (i) hold an advanced degree (terminal in their field or discipline) represented within one of SPS’s academic units; (ii) have significant teaching experience and an academic track record; (iii) have at least seven years of administrative experience and effectiveness in higher education, preferably in the field of pedagogy and/or faculty affairs (iv) have experience working with diverse populations. Candidates should provide evidence of teaching excellence, successful administrative work, and promise in scholarly work.
