Position Summary The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily deli operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, food safety, merchandising, and customer service. This role assists with leading deli associates, maintaining efficient production and service workflows, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities Department Operations * Assist in managing daily deli operations including food preparation, cooking, slicing, and service * Support ordering, receiving, inventory control, and proper rotation of deli products * Ensure food quality, freshness, and presentation standards are met * Maintain clean, organized service areas, prep areas, and backroom spaces Merchandising & Standards * Assist with execution of merchandising plans, promotions, and seasonal programs * Ensure proper labeling, signage, pricing, and product presentation * Monitor dates, waste, and shrink to minimize loss Customer Service * Deliver excellent customer service and assist customers with product selections and special requests * Address and resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally * Promote a friendly, clean, and service‑focused deli environment Team Leadership & Training * Support training, coaching, and development of deli associates * Assist with scheduling, task assignments, and daily workflow * Lead by example to reinforce teamwork, accountability, and productivity * Assume full department leadership responsibilities in the Deli Manager’s absence Sales & Performance * Assist with driving sales through strong execution and merchandising * Monitor department performance including sales, labor, and shrink * Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service, and department results Safety & Compliance * Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company operating procedures * Enforce proper equipment use, temperature controls, and safe work practices * Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment Qualifications * Previous deli, food service, or retail leadership experience preferred * Knowledge of food preparation, slicing, cooking, and food safety practices * Strong customer service, communication, and leadership skills * Ability to train, motivate, and supervise associates * Ability to stand for extended periods, lift deli products/equipment, and work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays Core Competencies * Leadership and teamwork * Food safety and quality focus * Organization and attention to detail * Time management and adaptability * Customer‑first mindset Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).  Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.   *For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
