ASSISTANT DEPOT MANAGER

We are an established, family-owned business specialising in the production of authentic Italian cheeses, meats, and fresh pasta. Operating across the wholesale, catering, and restaurant industries, we pride ourselves on delivering quality Italian products nationwide. We are a national company with depots in London, Bedford, Bristol, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Glasgow.
We are now looking for an Assistant Depot Manager in our Bedford Depot.
This role will be instrumental in helping to manage and support the Depot manager and oversee our small, friendly team of 17 employees.
The role is multifaceted, with a strong emphasis on operations. – Someone with a logistics and warehousing background is essential. We are looking for someone who is people-focused and has management experience. The ideal candidate should be ready to jump in and have a hands-on approach, seamlessly switching between tasks and working effectively across all departments.

We are looking for someone who has direct and relevant experience in the below:

  • Logistics and Transport compliance and drivers’ management: Overseeing all transport compliance and O license regulations. (We can train the right candidate) Helping plan routes and manage a small team of drivers. (If you have a HGV license that is advantageous)
  • Warehouse: Provide hands-on support to the warehouse manager and his team to ensure flow in and out of stock, cleanliness and storage.
  • Stock control – work with the centralised stock management teams to ensure proper processes are implemented.
  • Management: Work closely with the Depot Manager to guide and support warehouse & driving staff, ensuring productivity and efficiency are maintained. Understanding HR processes, looking for opportunities to motivate staff while acting on performance management.
  • Problem Solving: Address operational challenges quickly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to service and customer satisfaction.
  • Depot Maintenance & Compliance help oversee all aspects of the Depot. Compliance maintenance and machinery maintenance.
  • General Support: Ability to assist in all areas of the service workflow of the business, attending to urgent tasks as required

  • People Manager - can direct & support employees.
  • Experience in a warehouse or logistics environment is essential
  • Strong IT skills and can adapt to new systems quickly.
  • The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable working in a small team, willing to pitch in wherever necessary.
  • HGV license (Advantageous)
  • Health and Safety knowledge

Offer:
· £34k starting salary
· Monday – Friday 45 hrs a week.
· 6 am – 4 pm (Approx time: Rota to be discussed at interview with a view to some flexibility options)
