JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Deputy Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of our establishment, ensuring that all activities align with our organisational goals. This position requires strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • QCF/ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care Learning and Development – Management Pathway or working towards within a reasonable period of time.
  • QCF/ Level 5 Diploma in Playwork or working towards within a reasonable period of time.
  • BA Hons. Degree in Early Childhood Studies
  • Playwork Degree Graduate Diploma in Playwork (University of Gloucester)
  • Professional Qualification in any of the following; Social Work, Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting, Teaching and at least two years’ paid experience in employment working with children of the age group relevant to the setting they will be working in.

Responsibilities

    • The postholder is responsible for:

    • In conjunction with the director, recruiting, selecting and training the care staff, relief staff and ancillary staff.

    Supervising and appraising the work of all care staff and ancillary staff.

    • The support and supervision of all staff on a daily basis and any students and volunteers attached to Kids Academy.
    • In conjunction with the director, devising, updating and implementing the care staff duty rota.
    • Monitoring and keeping records of staff’s annual leave, time in lieu and sickness leave.
    • Budgeting, welfare rights, benefits for parents/carers, purchasing/deliveries of goods and equipment as required.
    • Organising staff training and development
    • Ensure all areas where the children are present are prepared on a daily basis.
    • Ensure that all parents/carers and children are greeted warmly and that parents/carers are kept fully informed of their child’s overall developments.
    • In conjunction with the supervisory staff, take an active part in planning and evaluating a caring and stimulating environment, which meets the needs of all children.
    • Listen to, encourage, enable and stimulate children in all ways.
    • As part of a team approach, help plan, prepare and take part in all special events, outings and visits.
    • In conjunction with supervisory staff, ensure equipment is maintained and safe to use.
    • Ensure safety of children and have the necessary training to be able to detect hazards in the environment, and be able to take appropriate action.
    • Keep up to date records, First aid box replenished, an accident/incident book, copies of plans of activities/routines etc, a petty cash book, records required by social services, observation records of children, staff records, student/volunteer records, equipment and stock inventory.
    • Ensure fire drills are carried out and recorded, ensure observance of the No Smoking policy.
    • Advise the directors of any matter requiring attention, such as replacement or repairs to equipment, changes in staff.
    • Maintain an appropriate First Aid Certificate and Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
    • Assist with preparation and supervision of children’s meals.
    • Adhere to the dress code of Kids Academy.
    • Maintain the day care invoice system, keep a waiting list and admit children when vacancies occur in keeping with Kids Academy day care admission policy.
    • Liase with other professional bodies and keep records etc. as appropriate.
    • Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding children, their families, or other staff which is learnt as part of the job. Such information should only be passed on in the interests of the child. The postholder shall, in each instance refer to the policy of Kids Academy to ascertain her/his responsibilities in this situation.
    • Act as Designated officer, working within Child Protection Procedures as appropriate, reporting on child abuse/neglect/bullying and implementing delegated tasks within the Child Protection and Safeguarding policy.
    • Carry out reasonable instructions which are given by the Director and the management team.
    • Carry out any other duties relevant to the post.
