Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

The College of Engineering (CoE) is looking for Assistant Director, Finance. The incumbent plays an instrumental role in establishing and maintaining finance business partnerships with stakeholders in the Engineering schools, and administrative units. The partnership is vital to enable and ensure effective finance planning, reporting, and operations in alignment with the University’s policies and guidelines, as well as overseeing critical functions within the College like procurement, asset management, and internal controls, upholding rigorous adherence to the University’s financial policies and guidelines. The scope straddles across College’s, Schools’, self-financing operations and research finance.
This role is responsible for planning and executing the implementation of finance initiatives and targets to help achieve the goals of the College in alignment with University’s strategic objectives. It includes financial planning, budget monitoring and reporting, ensuring governance and compliance, and coordinating operational activities related to specific objectives of the College and University.
The role will have reporting lines to both the College of Engineering and Office of Finance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the college’s budgeting, planning and forecasting activities.
  • Prepare budget templates and ensure timely submission of budget data.
  • Monitor budget execution and utilization. Perform evaluation on budget utilization and performance to facilitate decision making over prioritization and strategy.
  • Conduct decision-support analyses that provides real-time and accurate financial information draws insights from such analyses to make recommendations to the college leadership and relevant finance stakeholders.
  • Prepare key financial data to Dean/CoE’s leadership on financial health of the College and Schools (Self-financing program performance, budget utilization, key commitments on the overhead, etc).
  • Manage budget appeal, budget virement and other budget matters.
  • Monitoring budget spending from research grants.
  • Work with HR to monitor expenditures for staffing in the College of Engineering.
