Maxville Manor is a 122-bed long term care home located in the village of Maxville, Ontario; just 45 minutes east of Ottawa or 30 minutes north of Cornwall.
The Assistant Director of Care is responsible for providing supportive leadership and management of the Nursing Department in collaboration with the Director of Care. All care must be provided in compliance with the legislation and guidelines established by the Ministry of Long- Term Care of Ontario (MLTC), Maxville Manor guidelines, policies, and procedures, and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). The Assistant Director of Care is a contributing member of the Senior Management Team of Maxville Manor and is responsible in tandem for the overall delivery of health care to the residents of Maxville Manor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN)
  • Current certificate and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Certification (a-IPC, CIC, etc.) is an asset.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial role or supervisory capacity in a health care setting preferred.
  • Experience in developing Quality Improvement Plans and managing a Quality Improvement Program is an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of the MLTC legislation.
  • Past experience with PointClickCare.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft word product

Responsibilities:

Quality Improvement

  • Responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance of the nursing department to required policies and procedures, collective agreements and provincial legislation, including but not limited to, the following: Fixing Long Term Care Act. 2021, Ontario Regulation 246/22, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Act, Employment Services Act.
  • Leads the implementation and review of relevant policies, procedures and processes required to ensure the Home meets and/or exceeds government legislation and industry standards.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of Homes’ required programs (e.g. falls, restraints, skin and wound, continence, pain management). Leads the evaluation and improvement of programs and services as required.

Nursing Professional Practice

  • Supports unit managers with complex care issues or concerns to foster positive resident outcomes
  • Responsible for the training and development of nursing staff in partnership with the Director of Staff Development as needed.

Human Resources

  • Provides leadership for the recruitment and hiring of nursing staff, in particular the PSWs

Administration

  • Oversees the resident admission process
  • Delivers nursing orientation
  • Maintains an active presence mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as may be assigned
  • Provides coverage and replacement for the Director of Care as required to ensure continuity of responsibilities and supervision of staff

Performs other duties as assigned.
