Responsibilities

General:

  • It is part of your role to understand and disseminate/communicate all corporate and hotel policies and standard operating procedures to the colleagues.
  • MOHG Code of Conduct requires that all business activities and business decisions comply with the general law, with all rules, regulations, and other requirements.
  • It is part of your strategy to fully understand and support in all aspects the Mandarin Oriental, Dubai Engineering Department Strategic Policy.
  • It is part of your role and your responsibility to fully support all learning and development activities.
  • You shall take all reasonable steps to safeguard stored information, and not divulge or otherwise transfer any personal data concerning the guests, customers or colleagues, or any confidential information concerning the hotel unless with the appropriate authority.
  • Use of the hotel’s network, computers or internet access which is in the hotel’s view unreasonable or inappropriate, for example gambling, chatroom, or pornographic material, is a serious breach of hotel policy and grounds for summary dismissal.
  • Support and adhere to all policies & procedures relating to Safe, Sound and Sustainable at Mandarin Oriental.
  • Ensure compliance with the MODUB Social Media Policy, i.e. to be fully responsible for the content you publish on any social media platform, including your personal site.

Departmental:

  • Assist Director of Engineering on all matters related to the repair and maintenance operations of the physical plant and engineering facilities within the hotel.
  • Maintain the entire hotel facility, including the physical building structure, all structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and other related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventive maintenance program.
  • Ensure the upkeep of guest areas to maintain an attractive hotel.
  • Conduct house tours and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structures of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical HVAC systems and any other related equipment.
  • Verify completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces and verify completion of all repairs, replacements and renovation projects.
  • Ensure full compliance to Safe, Sound & Sustainable Mandarin Oriental standards. They must be monitored regularly to assist in scoring 100% on the Safe, Sound & Sustainable audit.
  • Encourages the highest possible standard of environmental management.
  • Attend and report to Director of Engineering any actions or action plans that may arise from inspections by the local authorities.
  • To uphold the Hotel’s security instructions and regulations in accordance with Hotel and Company Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain effective energy management and preventive maintenance programs and conduct special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy in the hotel.
  • Assisting in developing and implementing plans and goals for the department.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Assist in budgeting and monitoring expenses.
  • Creates reports and submit them to the Director of Engineering or other executives.
  • To coordinate with outside agencies or vendors for repair and maintenance work.
  • To check the quality of engineering goods procured by the organization.
  • Report any urgent matters or irregularities to the Director of Engineering immediately.
  • Able to represent engineering department on HOD meeting during the absence of Director of Engineering.
  • Able to take decisions to ensure successful operation.
  • Able to respond to emergencies in a timely manner.

  • Monitor and record utility consumption and assist the Director of Engineering to maintain efficiency.
  • Maintain history card for all plant equipment.
  • Prepare reports, maintain inventories, and keep accurate records, order equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure correct maintenance of all equipment in conjunction with the other user departments.
  • Support company’s philosophy and company culture using Pillars of Legendary Quality Experiences on a daily basis to ensure Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement.
  • Implement the hotel’s PM’s for all aspects of the hotel (including life safety equipment), and ensure tasks are completed competently and within a given time.
  • Carry out daily review of the department’s logbooks, record sheets and daily of events to ensure all maintenance requests have been completed and any outstanding items have a next day follow up response.
  • Ensure that any work requests that come from hotel’s guests or senior management are responded to within a given time. All such requests are to be recorded along with what action is taken.
  • Using HOTSOS assign the maintenance requests from other departments to the relevant maintenance trades and ensure these requests are completed competently and within time. Also, formulate a monthly reporting form, highlighting the engineering departments “clear up rate” and progress made on maintenance requests.
  • With the assistance of the Director of Engineering and relevant Department Heads, carry out weekly tours of the laundry, kitchens, restaurants, bars, function rooms, BOH, guest rooms and outdoor areas to ensure the highest standard of health and safety and maintenance is constantly achieved.
  • To meet with the Director of Engineering and Duty Engineers on daily bases to ensure the continuity in the operation of the Engineering Division is maintained always.
  • Coordinate a program for taking rooms out of service for perfect room maintenance with the Housekeeping Department.
  • To assume the role of Department Head in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
  • Maintain the link of two-way communications between management and colleagues by daily departmental operations meetings, individual counselling and open forum sessions.
  • Review and prepare the Engineering duty shift schedule.
  • To carry out a weekly review and report of the Engineering colleague attendance and sickness record.
  • To enforce discipline on the Engineering colleagues and take any corrective action in accordance with Policy and Procedures.
  • To assist the Director of Engineering in Company’s appraisal system (Performance Management and Development System PROFILE) for monitoring staff performance and development by providing direction and feedback to staff in adhering to service procedure.
  • In conjunction with the Training Manager, identify training needs of the department and ensure training plans are created and delivered.
  • To ensure any accidents to colleagues, guests or visitors are reported in accordance with Hotel procedures.
  • To attend statutory fire training and to be fully conversant with and abide by all rules concerning, fire, life safety.
  • To attend any training deemed appropriate by your Head of Department.
  • To undertake responsibility for supervising, training and instructing colleagues in terms of Occupational Health & Safety.
  • To perform any other duties and responsibilities as required by the Director of Engineering or management as and when required.
