Reporting to the Director of Special Education, the Assistant Director of Special Education will be responsible for providing leadership and support to staff, parents, partner districts, and students. The Assistant Director of Special Education will work be responsible for supporting the Director of Special Education. They will play an integral role in the management and direction of Sherwood Autism Center’s Special Education department ensure compliance with stakeholder requirements, local, state and federal laws. Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm Essential Functions: Support the Director of Special Education in the implementation and oversight of special education programming to ensure alignment with organizational priorities, standards, and mission Coach and train special education department staff on how to select, adapt and design learning materials, lesson plans, teaching strategies and activities to teach skills based on interests and motivation to address each students individualized needs. Supervise, coach, and support staff to ensure effective instructional practices, professional conduct, and adherence to organizational policies and expectations. Assist with onboarding of new staff and support onboarding of new students and families to ensure successful integration into programming. Coordinate and support communication between staff, families, school districts, and internal teams?with?consistency and professionalism. Conducts compliance efforts for special education K-12 ages 5-21; completes reviews of all special education, IEP/BSP documents, ensuring compliance with procedures, state and federal laws. Maintains a variety of computerized and manual records, files and department databases (e.g. information packets, rosters/listings, calendars, student records etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reliable information and complying with organizational, state and federal requirements. Support daily program operations, including staffing coordination, classroom coverage, and problem-solving to?maintain?continuity of services, including providing direct classroom support as needed. Foster and promote a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale. Assume other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
