Primary objective
Provide specialist advice to schools, communities, industry and VET providers on the development, implementation and ongoing
improvement of accredited VET programs in Territory schools, ensuring national standards are maintained and future workforce
needs are prioritised.
Context statement
Skills NT’s role is to build a skilled and capable workforce through vocational education and training (VET) that meets the needs of
Territorians, industry and community. The VET for Secondary Students team provides and advice and support to schools and
regions to enable delivery of VET programs that contribute to an NTCET pathway or help build suitable post-school destination
pathways into industry.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage and coordinate staff, including regionally based staff to ensure a high quality and equitable service is provided to
schools and other relevant stakeholders.
2. Implement strategies and targets in line with agreed NT Education and Training strategy.
3. Apply contemporary leadership and management skills including business planning, projects, human resources, finance, contract
management and budgeting.
4. High level ability to collate and present data and information that can be used to inform business policy responses and strategies.
5. Broker and maintain collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with industry, training providers, school principals and
other relevant stakeholders, and promote employment pathways, career options for students and facilitate the introduction of
new initiatives in relation to vocational education.
6. Develop and implement policy, system wide professional support and advice relevant to the delivery of vocational pathways
and supporting programs to meet student and school needs.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed understanding and knowledge of local industry, key players and current issues driving skills and workforce.
2. Proven capability and experience in strategic planning, program and project management and delivery, including strong budget
and financial planning.
3. Demonstrated proactive leadership and management of a busy team including relationship management and stakeholder
engagement across diverse groups.
4. High-level current knowledge of VET, apprenticeships and traineeships, relevant legislative provisions and the issues impacting
the sector.
5. Solutions-focused, including ability to define and achieve individual and team goals within specified timeframes, manage
competing priorities, deliver agreed outcomes, and maintain a high level of professionalism, personal drive and resilience.
6. Excellent written communication, including preparing clear and concise reports, high level correspondence, Ministerial and
Legislative Assembly briefs and recommendations.
