JOB SUMMARY

The Sommelier Assistant Manager acts as support to the Head Sommelier for the management of all aspects of the beverage division in accordance with Four Seasons standards. This person maintains the management and customer service philosophy that guides the work of the staff of his department. He/she will be responsible for assisting in the selection , training and engagement of all hotel food court employees. This person will be responsible for helping produce the wine and beverage list for restaurants and room service and banquets, as well as coordinating orders with suppliers and partners.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • College degree / certification in Hotel Management, Sommelier or related fields;
  • Previous experience of 1 to 3 years in a similar position;
  • Excellent knowledge of wine, beer, spirits and non-alcoholic options (WSET-2 or equivalent) with experience using POS (Point-of-Sale) systems;
  • Ability to read, write in French and Englis h (Expert level ) ;
  • S upervisory skills;
  • Trustworthy and helpful personality to all team members in various departments;
  • Be organized, meticulous and resourceful;
  • Be creative and have initiative;
  • Be comfortable with having an atypical schedule with long hours and be available evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to shift gears and into different areas of responsibilities comfortably;
  • Ability to work in motion, mostly standing, and lift, pull or push loads up to 25kg.

Responsibilities

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specialized knowledge on wines and spirits and guarantee the quality of all food, beverages, ingredients and preparation methods, in an elegant environment, dedicated to a careful and distinct experience, while respecting local laws, national and federal alcohol service;
  • Know all brands of spirits, beers and any non-alcoholic beverage available in the restaurant. Also know the specific characteristics and descriptions of each wine/champagne according to the glass, all the great wines on the wine list as well as the glassware and toppings specific to each drink;
  • Monitor the status of orders to ensure they are delivered on time;
  • Keep up to date on hotel arrivals and departures, “VIP” guests, group activity bookings, their locations and times;
  • Keep up to date on good equipment maintenance and usage practices;
  • Assist with orders to meet operational needs;
  • Support for hourly employee coaching and training;
  • Performs standard beverage testing and file performance management;
  • Support all efforts on all Service KPI scores (LQA, Forbes, Medallia ) ;
  • Supports training and accountability within the team to achieve high scores above benchmarks;
  • Act in all areas related to the safety, satisfaction and well-being of restaurant customers;
  • React quickly and effectively in any emergency or security situation;
  • Resolve customer complaints throughout the hotel’s beverage business;
  • Ensure that all interactions with clients have an exceptional level of hospitality and professionalism;
  • Respond to all client inquiries and requests for information in an accurate and timely manner. Interaction with the customer can be in person, by phone or by other technologies (CHAT );
  • Assists in the preparation of weekly employee schedules according to personnel guidelines and labour requirements forecasts. Make adjustments throughout the week to reflect operational needs;
  • Check the wine/champagne reserves and order those that are missing .
  • Keep properties clean at all times with the highest hygiene standards in mind and are representative of Four Seasons - across the entire property;
  • Ensure for each service that there are sufficient beverage cards, wine cards, snack menus and special cocktail menus available and in good condition;
  • Promote positive customer relationships at all times;
  • Conduct yourself in accordance with the Four Seasons Work Rules and Standards of Conduct set out in the EmPact Employee Manual ;
  • Work harmoniously and professionally with colleagues and supervisors;
  • Promote a collaborative work environment that maximizes staff productivity and morale;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist to r egularly monitor employee performance for each phase of the service as well as assigned tasks, reporting and documenting all issues to a member of the management team;
