Post No. POSN003846 - Assistant Educational Psychologist
Newport Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic assistant educational psychologist on a fixed term contract to work as part of our friendly team. The role will form part of the EPS’s offer of support to schools and families around emotional based school avoidance (EBSA).
We are interested in applications from psychology graduates with graduate basis for registration (GBR) with the BPS who have experience working with children and young people in education, social or health care services. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of young people whose access to education is affected by social, emotional or mental health needs. Knowledge of the ALN Code for Wales is also desirable.
Working as an Assistant EP in the area of EBSA will include supporting Newport schools to develop additional learning provision for pupils who are non-attending due to EBSA. This will include engaging with pupils and their families to identify their needs and sharing this information with schools to inform planning and intervention. You will have a key role in developing the EPS’s offer of support to parents of pupils with EBSA and of delivering training to key staff within Newport schools.
Newport EPS Offers:
The ability to communicate in Welsh, both spoken and written, is a desirable requirement for this role.
For an informal discussion about this role please contact: Joanne Howell (Educational Psychologist) joanne.howell@newport.gov.uk
Closing date: 23/06/25
We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.
Newport City Council is not currently supporting applicants with sponsorship for right to work. In applying for a vacancy, applicants should already have the right to work in the UK.
