• Educational Background: Achieved at least Level 3 qualifications in Maths, English, and Science.
• Commitment to Growth: A willingness to undertake a professional qualification.
• Housing Knowledge: A basic understanding of the statutory functions of local authorities in private sector housing enforcement and licensing.
• Customer Service Focus: Strong customer care skills and an understanding of its practical applications.
• Diversity Awareness: A commitment to Southwark’s Equality and Diversity Policy and the ability to apply this in your work.
• IT Skills: Proficiency in using IT software packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is more than just a job—it’s the start of a rewarding career in housing enforcement. As an Assistant Enforcement Officer, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to protecting residents and ensuring housing standards across Southwark. Your role will include:

• Supporting enforcement officers in identifying, investigating, and resolving breaches of housing legislation.
• Learning how to provide written or verbal advice, warnings, legal notices, and other enforcement actions.
• Contributing to the maintenance and improvement of housing standards and well-being in our community.

We’ll provide on-the-job training and support to help you develop the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to progress to a Housing Enforcement Officer role in the future.
