PE Global are delighted to be working with a very good client of ours who is a leading national transport infrastructure organisation responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable rail services across Ireland. With a strong public service mission and a growing focus on environmental stewardship and sustainability, they are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Environmental Manager to join their civil engineering division.

Responsibilities

ROLE & PURPOSE:

The Civil Engineering Department of a national transport infrastructure organization has legal compliance, environmental, and biodiversity obligations relating to the management of infrastructure maintenance and protection of the natural environment within and adjacent to operational corridors. The Environmental Department supports the Civil Engineer, Infrastructure Managers, Regional Managers, and Building & Facilities teams to ensure maintenance activities are advanced efficiently, maintaining safe operating conditions for services and the public, while also protecting the surrounding natural environment.
The Civil Engineering team is seeking to recruit an Assistant Environmental Manager to provide specialist support in areas including legal compliance, environmental management, biodiversity initiatives, and resource management improvements.
REPORTS TO: Environmental & Sustainability Manager

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership assistance and contribute to the efficient functioning of the Environmental Department
  • Deputize for the Environmental & Sustainability Manager as required and manage departmental resources and activities
  • Manage the Environmental Management System to retain ISO14001 certification
  • Maintain environmental records and statistics relating to network conditions
  • Support various business units in developing environmental controls for maintenance works
  • Implement environmental and biodiversity improvement initiatives
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders regarding infrastructure activities and improvements
  • Ensure awareness and compliance with all relevant environmental and planning legislation
  • Organize environmental training programmes to improve staff awareness
  • Ensure all statutory reporting requirements are fulfilled
  • Develop environmental risk assessments for work programmes
  • Respond to environmental queries and complaints related to department activities
  • Build collaborative relationships with local communities, neighbours, and scientific interest groups
  • Engage with statutory and stakeholder groups relating to biodiversity and ecology
  • Assist in delivering environmental and biodiversity targets as part of the organization’s Sustainability Strategy
  • Ensure all work is planned and executed safely, in line with the safety management system and relevant operating procedures
