Description
Description The Assistant Estimator uses digital takeoff and earthwork analysis programs to extract dimensional information and computer-generated calculations from project site blueprints to assist Estimators in determining the quantity of materials required to build a given project site. Such information includes but is not limited to, sediment and erosion control requirements, earthwork cuts, fills and specifications related to roadway and utility requirements. The Assistant Estimator also determines quantities of required materials and items of work to be bid by subcontractors and internal departments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Understands and interprets, with accuracy, civil construction drawings, maps, and specifications. Works with computer programs and instruments related to length, width, area, angle, and slope. Prepares and distributes reports to estimators on a timely basis that allows them to prepare project cost estimates. Read and thoroughly understand the bid documents, plan details, bid forms, and the required scope. Operates Agtek, Blue Beam Revu, Autodesk, and Microsoft Office as required. When probes are required to investigate soil and rock conditions, Assistant Estimator may be engaged to observe and document. Primarily works independently with some guidance from Estimator on project-specific requirements. Strong time management skills required. Must be able to field multiple requests from different estimators with varying deadlines. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar field preferred. Training in drafting or AutoCAD preferred. Experience reading civil design drawings preferred. Previous experience working in survey or construction is preferred.
