POSITION DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT FACILITIES DIRECTOR

Location: Melrose Family YMCA, Melrose, MA
Reports to: Facility Director
FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
Education Level: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000
Schedule: Saturday – Wednesday (Varied) Weekend day(s) required

POSITION OVERVIEW

Are you skilled in maintenance and repair and passionate about helping your community? Join the Melrose Family YMCA as our Assistant Facilities Director and play a key role in ensuring our branch and two satellite child care centers are safe, clean, and welcoming to all.
You’ll be responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness, safety, and functionality of our building and grounds. Daily responsibilities include routine maintenance and repair (e.g., painting, plumbing, carpentry), preventive upkeep, cleaning/sanitization, lawn care, and snow/ice removal. This position requires flexibility to respond to emergencies and non-traditional hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid MA driver’s license and/or reliable transportation
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in facility management or related field
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies

Responsibilities
  • Support and perform maintenance tasks at two satellite childcare centers.
  • Oversee facility and property maintenance, including developing preventive maintenance schedules and coordinating contracted services.
  • Complete repair work and special projects in a timely manner.
  • Maintain working relationships with local fire, health, and building officials; ensure full compliance with regulations and codes.
  • Uphold YMCA safety standards; comply with OSHA and industrial safety procedures.
  • Maintain grounds, including lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, and ice control.
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and replacement parts.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related concerns from members, staff, or visitors.
  • Provide hands-on support with maintenance, repairs, and janitorial tasks.
  • Participate in night and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Collaborate on projects across other YMCA branches.
  • Attend and contribute to staff and association meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
