Department Overview The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM) provides expert diagnosis and care of patients with lung diseases in our Pulmonary Clinic; allergy, asthma, and immunologic disorders in our Allergy Clinic; and of critically ill patients in our Intensive Care Unit. As part of PACCM, the Sleep Medicine Program provides collaborative care for patients with sleep disorders. In addition to our commitment to outstanding clinical care, PACCM is home to several outstanding research programs, conducting basic science research as well as clinical trials across a broad spectrum of subject matter. Our educational mission includes teaching on many levels, including but not limited to our fellowship programs in Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine. Function/Duties of Position The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position reports to (supervisor): Matthew G. Drake, MD, Division Head The duties of this position include: Clinical (40-90%): Provision of outpatient and inpatient clinical duties in the Allergy and Immunology Section of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, as assigned by the Division Head. Administrative, Educational and Academic (0-20%): The position will fill the role of the Endowed Chair and Director of the Burghardt Food Allergy Center. Educational responsibilities include presenting at and otherwise participating in division grand rounds and other conferences and may include teaching residents and medical students. Further responsibilities will be developed in conjunction with the division chief. Research (0-50%): Conduct independent clinical, translational, or basic science research. The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University seeks a candidate for an Assistant or Associate Professor position to fill the role of the Endowed Chair and Director of the Burghardt Food Allergy Center. Applicants must have an M.D or other qualifying doctorate degree. Applicants should be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and/or Pediatrics as well as Allergy and Immunology. Expertise is required in allergic and immunologic diseases for a diverse patient population in outpatient clinics and on inpatient consultations services. The Director will be responsible for expenditures from an endowment aimed towards research and teaching in food allergy. The successful applicant will have current or a substantial history of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, industry-sponsored studies, or funded investigator-initiated trials related to basic or translational research in food allergy. Laboratory space and start-up funds for the Director's research program may be provided, and the Director will have a nationally competitive salary. Resources for recruitment of additional research-intensive faculty may be made available through various sources in order to continue to grow the Section. The Section is supported by a strong Department of Medicine, and a research-focused Dean and Vice Dean for Research. The practice plan provides significant infrastructure and logistic support for addressing clinical issues as they arise. The Section trains medical residents and offers a fellowship in Allergy/Immunology. The Section also provides clinical coverage at area hospitals and clinics, including Oregon Health and Science University Hospital and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Teaching responsibilities may include teaching Allergy and Immunology fellows as well as residents from multiple specialties and medical students. Clinical responsibilities may include proficiency in treating both common and complex allergic and immunologic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient practice at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. The provider may also be required to spend part of their clinical time at nearby satellite locations in the Portland metro region. The ideal candidate should have an interest and experience in education, systems improvement initiatives, and/or clinical research related to food allergies. There will be opportunities to lead and coordinate the development of multi-disciplinary clinics and expansion of clinical trials.
