Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists with the day-to-day operations of Lincoln University’s George Washington Carver and James N. Freeman Farms. Works with the Farm Manager to manage and handle farm livestock within an intensive grazing management system, as well as, recording and maintaining animal records in a computerized database. coordinates with the Principal Investigators on the various tasks which needed to be completed on their respective research plots on the Carver and Freman Farms. Supervises student and casual workers at the Carver and Freeman Farms. Operates farm equipment as required to maintain the farm operations, including but not limited to tractors, skid steers, hay equipment, lawn mowers, and weed eaters. Assist with scheduling and coordination for events and field days at the farms. Maintains grounds and facilities at the Carver and Freeman Farms.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of the day-to-day farm operations (animals, plants, soils, forestry, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cattle and small ruminant production and animal welfare.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to multitask.
  • Must be able to operate farm equipment. (tractors, skid steer, hay equipment, etc.)
  • Knowledge of organic agriculture production.
  • Must be punctual and dependable with the ability to initiate and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Good computer skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture or closely related field required.
  • Knowledge of organic agriculture production preferred.
  • Experience working with livestock strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating farm equipment required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work for prolonged periods in inclement weather conditions.
