POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Food Service Director plays a key role in supporting the Food Service Director with the management and operation of food service functions. This position involves assisting with planning and supervising the department’s activities to ensure high-quality food service for residents, employees, and visitors. The Assistant Director will also support food planning, menu development, and the preparation of regular and therapeutic diets, while ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification as required by regulatory agencies governing the facility.
  • AA degree in culinary services or food management preferred.
  • Food Service Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies is required.
  • Servsafe certified

JOB SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of basic dietetic principles, food sanitation, and service techniques.
  • Experience in healthcare setting as a supervisor
  • Cooking experience
  • Familiarity with large-scale food purchasing and preparation, food and labor laws, and food service techniques.
  • Ability to assist in formulating and managing operational and capital budgets for the food service department.
  • Knowledgeable in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and training of food service personnel.
  • Ability to interact positively with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in ensuring the quality and quantity of food served.
  • Support adherence to all sanitary regulations governing the handling and serving of food.
  • Oversee meal preparation and service to ensure meals are served on schedule.
  • Research and evaluate current dietary trends and developments, and recommend their integration into the dietary program.
  • Help develop, revise, and improve operational techniques for more efficient unit operations and employee training.
  • Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with national standards, administrative policies, and budget guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Assist in reviewing and evaluating dietary personnel’s performance, providing counseling, and ensuring staff follows facility personnel policies.
  • Contribute to ensuring the safety of all facility residents and assist with the implementation of fire, safety, and disaster plans.
  • Ensure residents and families receive the highest quality service in a compassionate and caring atmosphere.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Food Service Director.

  • Interacts with residents, families, visitors, and employees in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Assists in hands-on tasks as required by the Food Service Director.
