Description

Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor, the Assistant Food Services Supervisor assists with the day-today operations of the Food Services Department, consistent with the Mission and Philosophy of Bonnechere Manor.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Food Services are provided in a manner that focuses on the satisfaction of the clients and fully supports their rights.
  • Liaise with the Registered Dietitian and other members of the health care team in the development of the individualized residents nutritional care plan including the Initial Nutritional Assessment within seven days of admission, Quarterly Nutritional Assessments for low & moderate risk residents and initiation of Annual Nutritional Assessments. Participates in multidisciplinary care conferences and committees as requested.
  • Ensures ongoing communication and counselling of residents and family members on therapeutic diets or other nutritional concerns.
  • Maintains current Resident Diet Lists, Resident Seating Plans, Special Nourishment Lists, and Nutritional Risk Rating Lists etc. and circulates information throughout the Food Services Department.
  • Under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor the Assistant Food Service Supervisor may be required from time to time to assist with orientation, education, evaluation and participation in labour management issues. This includes monitoring performance when on units to ensure resident’s needs are being met, reporting problems and potential solutions in a timely manner to the Food Service Supervisor/Delegate.
  • Directs the activities of the Food Service Workers and Cooks and assists with the operation of the Food Services Department as delegated by the Food Service Supervisor, or in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor as requested by the Environmental Services Supervisor.
  • Provides input into the development, implementation and review of Standard Operating Procedures and Goals and Objectives within the Food Services Department as directed by the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Participates in the Food Services Continuous Quality Improvements Program by
  • Ongoing collection and documentation of CQI Data
  • Directing team members i.e. Food Service Workers and Cooks
  • Offering suggestions to Food Service Supervisor regarding resource allocation and utilization
  • Participates in multidisciplinary committee work as required
  • Participates in the revision of each Spring & Summer/Fall & Winter menu, special theme dinners and Catering functions.
  • Promotes and enhances positive relationship with community and external organizations.

Qualifications

  • Two-year Food Services Management Diploma.
  • Current registration in The Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Two to three years experience in food service management in a health care setting, preferably long term care.
  • Proven leadership abilities combined with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer software and expert keyboard skills (word processing, data base and spreadsheet).
  • Ability to meet and maintain health requirement standards of Bonnechere Manor as per Long Term Care Legislation.
  • Must have immediate accessible transportation.
