Elmhirst’s Resort is an all season, cottage resort and conference facility. It offers a spa, excellent dining and a host of activities for the whole family. Our collection of cottages is nestled on the pretty shore of Rice Lake. It is managed by a fifth generation of Elmhirst family and continues to offer the very best of the Kawarthas — much of it grown here, raised here or sourced from our very own 240-acre property.
Reports to: Lead Gardener
This is a fulltime seasonal position starting immediately. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the general maintenance of the ornamental, vegetable, cottage gardens and lawns at the Resort. We are located in a rural area without public transit availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform landscape maintenance such as soil cultivation, digging, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, planting and harvesting.
  • Properly handle and utilize hand tools and basic light machinery, mowers, trimmers and leaf blowers.
  • Maintain gardens by naturally fertilizing, trimming and making sure plants are receiving adequate water.
  • Prune trees and hedges in ways that help the plants’ health, are safe and look good.
  • Tend to all gardens, thoroughfares and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times.
  • Outside maintenance including walkways, steps, paths etc.
  • Must be organized and able to follow instructions and schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Experience in landscape maintenance and gardening
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for gardening purposes
  • Strong attention to detail in garden care and maintenance
  • Knowledge of local pests and how to eliminate them
  • The ability to fill a physically demanding role
  • Knowledge of regional plant life
  • A love of the outdoors and plant life
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment

Pay / Hours:

  • Starting at $19.00 per hour depending on experience
  • Full time seasonal position approximately 40 hours per week
