WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Qualified solicitor (common law jurisdiction), with 10+ years’ experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house team.
  • Previous experience in the professional services industry preferred, although not essential.
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial arrangements, including with Australian government organisations, banks and/ or Asia Pacific multi-nationals.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex legal issues and to deliver creative, business-friendly, and cost-effective solutions with an appropriate sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

In FTI Consulting’s Legal team, we protect FTI Consulting’s brand by effectively managing and mitigating legal, compliance and regulatory risk.
With 400+ staff across 4 offices, FTI Consulting’s Australia business has grown considerably in recent years. We are looking for an Assistant General Counsel, based in either Melbourne or Sydney, to be an additional member of the APAC legal team, supporting the Australian business by the prompt delivery of pragmatic, adaptable, and solutions-based legal advice. Reporting to the Head of Legal, APAC and working with APAC legal colleagues based in Singapore, the role will enjoy a challenging and varied workload that covers all legal issues arising in a fast-moving, innovative professional services business.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Partner with FTI’s Australia business segments, to support profitability, business growth and success.
  • Work as a member of the APAC legal team to provide timely and effective legal advice to FTI’s client-facing professionals and corporate teams. Negotiate and draft client-facing contracts and advise internal clients on a wide range of legal issues, including commercial contracts, multi-jurisdictional issues and transactions.
  • Collaborate with the APAC legal and Australia risk teams to maintain and adapt standard form templates that comply with company policies and Australian laws. Delivering training to business teams in Australia, as needed.
  • Be proactive in developing expertise in FTI’s practice areas and service offerings and building strong relationships with FTI’s client-facing professionals.
  • Support the Australia HR team on ad hoc employment law issues relating to FTI’s employee and contractor arrangements.
  • Identify and analyse current and emerging legal issues and risk and communicate effectively the same and, together with the Australia risk team, engage in mitigation activities to the appropriate levels of the business.
  • Work closely with and manage external legal counsel across Australia who are handling legal matters to ensure overall quality and value of legal services.
  • Support, guide and train junior lawyers in the APAC region.
