POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Singapore-based leader for its Asia-Pacific Legal Team, reporting to the company’s Associate General Counsel, primarily responsible for the delivery of legal and compliance services to the business in Asia-Pacific. We are looking for a savvy business partner who can provide both practical and strategic advice on the legal, regulatory, and business environments applicable to a large, multi-national agricultural sciences company in Asia Pacific. The successful candidate for this role will be a true leader with demonstrated ability to drive projects and initiatives, partner with senior business and functional leaders, and communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders across Asia-Pacific and in the United States on significant, and often sensitive, matters.

Responsibilities
  • Advising senior leaders and key stakeholders on commercial, operational, and compliance issues in the region, including competition law, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, etc.
  • Providing counsel to senior leaders on matters of business development, licensing, distribution, mergers and acquisitions, and other external growth projects in APAC.
  • Managing attorneys and legal staff based in China, Pakistan, Malaysia and India; optimizing team performance, professional development, and connection with business teams locally.
  • Supervising the retention and management of outside counsel across the region, ensuring the delivery of cost-effective and high-quality services to the Company, developing annual external legal budgets, and monitoring spending against such budgets.
  • Managing disputes in the region via negotiation, settlement, or litigation and providing guidance to the global team on litigation risks and reserves.
  • Leading the negotiation, documentation and implementation of regionally strategic transactional or commercial agreements while continuing to implement and improve standard T&Cs to achieve business goals.
  • Ensuring that the organization and Asia-Pacific legal entities comply with applicable legal requirements pertaining to corporate governance issues, including officer and director appointment and contract execution/DOAs, as well as corporate contract policies and systems.
  • Providing direct support to regional leaders on varied areas of employment law, including hiring & firing and employee benefits; providing strategic oversight of employment litigations and arbitrations in the region.
  • Developing and implementing a holistic compliance program in the region, working with key stakeholders, that includes increased transparency on high-risk topics, streamlined reporting on compliance matters, and trainings on key local regulations and FMC policies (especially the Code of Ethics, FCPA, and contract principles) throughout the organization in alignment with the Global Ethics Office.
  • Investigating and making recommendations on potential noncompliance issues in support of the Global Ethics Office.
