Job Title: Assistant General Counsel
Reports To: General Counsel in the US
Place of Work: Waterloo, Sydney
Contract: Full-time 6-month fixed term contract with the possibility of the role becoming permanent.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 4 + years of legal experience (in house or private practice)
  • A current unsupervised practicing certificate in Australia with the authority to supervise legal practice by others
Responsibilities

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts
  • Supporting the global legal team in delivering training and guidance to staff regarding various legal and compliance matters
  • Provide high quality legal advice and reporting to RWS Sports leadership team, finance, marketing and other staff as required
  • Provide direction and advice on the company’s involvement in RFP and procurement processes, both private and government;
  • Advising on regulatory compliance including the Corporations Act, Fair Work Act and Privacy Act;
  • Draft, review and amend internal policies to ensure legal compliance, consistency and relevant application to the organization;
  • Overseeing domestic and international insurance including annual renewals and claims management;
  • Overseeing and researching foreign tax, visa and other international compliance matters;
  • Provide advice on Privacy/Data Protection (APP and GDPR) and provide assistance as required on intellectual property matters
  • Overseeing Human Resources requirements in Australia
  • Manage commercial disputes and litigation matters;
  • Working with external Counsel and experts where required;
  • Supervising and managing a junior in-house lawyer who will report directly to you;
  • Corporate secretarial work in support of the General Counsel; and
  • Maintain and update the company’s library of legal precedents and templates.
