Description

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for building a culture of excellence and achieving cost and performance targets in all aspects of distribution center operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead operations at the distribution center to achieve cost and performance goals, including delivery of outstanding service to stores
  • Build strong culture of excellence with highly engaged team of managers and associates
  • Prepare and forecast budgets and deliver cost performance meeting budget goals while meeting or beating performance KPI’s
  • Drive reduction of distribution costs and improvement of service to stores and customers
  • Develop recommendations and strategy to continually improve service and cost performance
  • Communicate, track and resolve operational performance and quality issues
  • Close collaboration with internal and external business partners to drive excellence across the extended supply chain
  • Develop and enforce systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards
  • Manage material handling systems, WMS, facilities and equipment maintenance to achieve target performance levels
  • Educate and direct Management and Associates to follow and maintain established company, federal, state and local policies and procedures in compliance with company safety practices and OSHA
  • Demonstrate outstanding energy and the ability to energize others to achieve goals
  • Define and communicate supply chain and distribution vision and strategy
  • Educate and direct team to follow and maintain established company, federal, state and local policies and procedures in compliance with company safety practices and OSHA
  • Recruit, select, orient, train, coach, counsel and discipline Managers
  • Develop Management and Associates to increase their capabilities and job performance
  • Plan, monitor and appraise performance results and administer disciplinary action if necessary
  • Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
  • Schedule expenditures, research and analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions
  • Ensure the implementation of daily, weekly and monthly priorities and production plans
  • Research, compile, initiate, sort and analyze production performance records and data
  • Answer questions and respond to requests by internal customers at stores and company headquarters
  • Report and respond to any unsafe and unclean work environments and violations
  • Associate training and qualification and retention of related records
  • Evaluate new equipment and techniques
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Additional duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Job Qualifications – Education and Experience

  • BS in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Business Management or related field
  • 3-5 years of management experience in domestic transportation with a retailer or manufacturer
  • 5+ years of experience with 3PL, Ocean Carriers, Truckload, LTL, Intermodal, and small package/parcel modes
  • Have an understanding and in-depth knowledge of international and domestic transportation industry best practices
  • Experience with outsourced transportation management and multiple modes of delivery
  • Proven ability as a self-starter and proactive problem-solver
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor direct reports
  • Experience with managing transportation functions in an extremely fast paced, high energy and growing organization
  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation and partnering skills
  • Ability to collaborate and desire to work cross-functionally
