The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with and supports the Director of Agronomy in maintaining the overall quality, playability, and appearance of Pine Hills Golf Course. This role is a full-time, hands-on leadership position responsible for assisting with daily course operations, supervising and scheduling staff, and coordinating projects and vendors. The Assistant Superintendent helps execute agronomic programs and best practices, supports course improvement initiatives, monitors course conditions, and responds promptly to operational needs and changing priorities. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Provide daily leadership and support to the maintenance team by assigning work, offering direction, and actively assisting in the field to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to established standards. Assist in the execution and ongoing management of the golf course agronomic plan and operating budget. Monitor course conditions and identify agronomic issues such as disease, pest pressure, turf stress, and drainage concerns; recommend and assist with appropriate corrective actions. Support daily course setup and maintenance activities, including mowing, cultural practices, chemical applications, and proper equipment use. Inspect irrigation systems regularly, troubleshoot operational issues, and coordinate repairs or adjustments as needed. Assist with planning and execution of short- and long-term projects, including course improvements, renovations, and capital maintenance initiatives. Support the training and onboarding of new and existing staff, with emphasis on equipment operation, safety protocols, and adherence to club standards. Promote a strong culture of safety by ensuring compliance with established safety procedures and maintaining clean, organized, and safe work environments. Skills and Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of golf course maintenance experience, with demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality course conditions. Current NYS State Pesticide License is required. Strong knowledge of turfgrass management practices, including pest control, fertilizer programs, and chemical applications. Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including operation, troubleshooting, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance. Education in turfgrass management preferred (Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or relevant certification), or equivalent hands-on experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage staff and prioritize multiple tasks. Valid driver’s license and basic computer proficiency required.
