Job Summary The Assistant Head Grower is responsible for an assigned crop or set of crops production day-to-day needs. The Assistant Grower is also responsible for supervising assigned employees and duties such as, but not limited to, irrigation, fertilization, disease and pest control, soil management as well as scheduling duties. Key Responsibilities • Assist Head Grower troubleshooting daily operations issues related to assigned crop(s) and greenhouse(s). • Partner with Production Supervisors to ensure that all operation procedures are carried out to completion (i.e., space planning, crews, etc.) • Provide support to irrigators and chemical sprayers to supervise employees and ensure procedures are being followed. • Responsible for water, fertility management, pest, and disease identification as well as control management for assigned greenhouse(s). • Responsible for soil management, including tracking of soil EC and pH values. General Quality Control (i.e., finishing plants according to specifications). • Report in a timely fashion any quality growing concerns and potential root-causes • Oversee proper disinfection of benches, irrigation carts, and other nursery equipment. • Supervise proper crop trimming procedures. • Coordinates with planning and growers, location space planning and consolidation of crops • Assist the Head Grower with material inventory and ordering. • Provide training to new employees to ensure they become familiar with job duties, safety requirements and overall operations procedures. • Responsible for a Clean and Safe Working Environment • Responsible for record keeping associated with all areas outlined under Growing Management Department. • Performs all duties in accordance with environmental, food safety, safety rules and regulations. • Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Qualifications: B.S. in Science, Horticulture, Biological Science or related field required CA Private Applicator Certification strongly preferred or eligible to obtain within 6 months of hire Outstanding Microsoft Office knowledge (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) Excellent analytical skills Good oral and written communication skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to create and present reports and other documents associated with crop production Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills Physical Requirements While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Compensation: $25.00-$30.00 *The compensation range for this role is determined by factors such as location and required skills.
