JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Grower to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for horticulture and a strong understanding of plant care and cultivation techniques. This role involves hands-on work in the greenhouse, requiring both physical stamina and mechanical knowledge to maintain optimal growing conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • · Strong horticulture knowledge: Deep understanding of plant biology, growth cycles, and common plant diseases and pests.
    · Greenhouse management experience: Familiarity with greenhouse climate control systems and irrigation practices.
    · Propagation skills: Experience with various propagation methods like cuttings, seeds, and grafting.
    · Leadership abilities: Ability to effectively manage a team of workers and delegate tasks.
    · Attention to detail: Ability to maintain accurate records and consistently monitor plant health.
    · Physical stamina: Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a demanding physical environment.
    · Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities
  • · Regularly inspect plants for signs of disease, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and stress.
    · Implement appropriate pest management strategies and record pest activity.
    · Adjust irrigation and fertilization schedules based on plant needs and environmental conditions.
    · Monitor greenhouse climate controls (temperature, humidity, CO2) to maintain optimal growing conditions.
    · Assist in the propagation of new plants through cuttings, seeds, or grafting techniques.
    · Prepare planting beds and pots with appropriate soil mixes.
    · Ensure plants meet established quality standards regarding size, shape, and overall health.
    · Conduct regular quality checks and identify any issues that need to be addressed.
    · Manage plant inventory and track production schedules.
    · Train and supervise a team of nursery workers on proper plant care and handling techniques.
    · Delegate tasks and ensure efficient workflow within the growing area.
    · Identify and address any issues that arise within the team.
    · Maintain detailed records of plant varieties, growing conditions, pest management, and production data.
    · Generate reports for the Head Grower on crop progress and potential issues.
