Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team at the East Edmonton Health Center , the Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership, and organization of day-to-day activities of the clinic, including direct supervision of clinic staff. The AHN will provide leadership in clinical practice through coordination and monitoring of clinical activities, management of equipment, supplies and patient flow. The AHN assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for staff skill assessment and development. The AHN is in a leadership role and must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills. The AHN will develop and maintain strong working relationships with physicians, nursing staff, other clinic staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates, and empowers clinical staff. The AHN assists in the integration of skills and knowledge for staff on the unit, supports quality improvement/education initiatives and enhances patient safety. The AHN creates an environment of respect and collaboration and adheres and models the Alberta Health Services (AHS) missions, and values.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
