We are currently looking for talented and motivated Assistant Highways Engineer to join our team in Glasgow. These roles can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE?

Working with Sweco will give you the opportunity to work on landmark projects and schemes of all shapes and sizes. You will also learn from people who share a passion for working together with our customers to deliver technical excellence.
Working as an Assistant Engineer in the Highways teams we’ll offer you exposure to varied project work, working withing all project staged from inception through to construction and handover, both operating client side and in a design and build environment working on publicly funded and private developer projects.

WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE?

You will undertake engineering design and development through the application of proven techniques and procedures to develop appropriate solutions to client problems including:

• With support from the Highways Lead, undertaking elements of design from road geometry, drainage, and pavement to road restraint systems and traffic signs and road markings.
• Producing design outputs such as drawings, specifications, schedules, reports and calculations etc, to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
• Working in close collaboration with your team and other design disciplines and have an appreciation of their role.
• Ensuring that solutions meet client needs and expectations are met/exceeded.
• Ensuring that all work is carried out to the Company’s IMS, and current H&S legislation requirements.

You will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce, supported as required from senior colleagues and be fully committed to your professional development through a mix of our in-house training opportunities and engaging with professional institution activities.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU’LL POSSESS:

• A relevant degree and be working towards achieving a relevant professional qualification.
• Some experience of the delivery of elements of highway projects or work packages on larger multi-disciplinary projects.
• Experience of AutoCAD and a sound understanding of its integration with the BIM environment.
• A desire to learn, progress and challenge yourself.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
