ARE YOU AN EXPERIENCED MANAGER OR SUPERVISOR FOR A FRONT-FACING TEAM? DO YOU HAVE EXCELLENT ADMINISTRATIVE, ORGANISATIONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS? CAN YOU IDENTIFY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS IN A CALM AND BALANCED MANNER? DO YOU HAVE A FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE APPROACH TO WORK, ESPECIALLY IN A FREQUENTLY CHANGING ENVIRONMENT?

We are looking for an Assistant House Manager to oversee processes for welcoming audiences and visitors to the RSC, ensuring that audiences and visitors are placed at the heart of the organisation through delivery of a world-class visitor experience. You will also act as the daytime Duty Manager, three days per week, being responsible for efficient and safe Front of House operations in public areas. On occasion, you may also duty manager the Swan Theatre.

This position is offered as a full-time, fixed-term role based in Stratford-upon-Avon. Reporting to the Senior House Manager key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Ensuring that the public areas of our buildings provide enjoyable, safe and relaxed spaces all visitors
  • Collating and processing all visitor feedback, providing regular reports and updates on visitor feedback to senior management
  • Working collaboratively with the team to motivate and insure the team of Front of House Assistants
  • Carrying out pre-performance briefings, completing show reports and arranging logistics for large groups of visitors
  • Responding to written feedback by email and telephone
  • Keeping up to date with access requirements, national licencing and legislation to ensure good practice

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Duty management or supervisory experience leading a front-facing team.
  • Proven administrative skills with the ability to use the MS Office suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to solve problems and act with initiative.
  • A positive, flexible and adaptable approach to working in an ever-changing environment.

The hours are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with some regular evening and weekend work when managing Swan Theatre performances (shifts are scheduled a minimum of two week in advance). Occasional hybrid working may be possible; however, this role is expected to work on-site for most of the time.
This is a front-facing role working directly with the public – therefore a positive and proactive approach to greeting and assisting the public is required. Being confident to deal with a variety of scenarios, and potentially difficult situations. Our team are required to be alert at all times and provide an agile response in an emergency. The Visitor Experience team are based in a lively and busy open-plan office.
