Description:
The Human Resources department at the Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) is responsible for a broad spectrum of HR functions. These include but are not limited to, shaping the organisational structure, managing recruitment and retention strategies, overseeing pay and grading systems, facilitating training and development programs, promoting wellbeing, handling employment relations, and implementing performance management.
The Assistant HR Advisor, in collaboration with the wider team, is responsible for delivering a comprehensive HR and payroll function to all staff and line managers, including advising on and implementing various policies, managing complex employee relation matters, maintaining accurate personnel data, and advising on HR policies and procedures, all within HR best practice. The Assistant HR Advisor is also responsible for managing the full recruitment process for professional and research staff.
As the first point of contact for members of staff, and many external stakeholders, the role holder must have the ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, ensuring tact, discretion and diplomacy at all times. You will need to have considerable knowledge and experience in hiring, recruitment, employment law and HR best practices, as well as the ability to build trust with hiring managers, prospective candidates and staff members. The role holder provides a diagnostic service on specific HR issues and conducts analysis and definition of the root problem, identifying and recommending solutions to meet service requirements. In addition, a high degree of confidentiality, autonomy and initiative is critical.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience working in an HR role within a busy department (experience within a Higher Education environment would be advantageous). Candidates should demonstrate advanced knowledge of HR, including a critical understanding of relevant theory, as well as knowledge of employment law and principles. We are committed to providing opportunities for training and development, including support towards obtaining the CIPD accreditation.
This role is based in central Cambridge. We offer a hybrid working model and the successful candidate will be expected to be in the office for a minimum of three days a week.
