Overview: Whitby Curling Club is more than a curling facility; it is a place where everyone is welcome and belongs.
Whitby Curling Club offers over 25 draws a week, members of all ages and skill levels have an opportunity to participate in a variety of leagues. The Assistant Technician plays a vital role in supporting the technical operations of our organization in producing and maintaining high quality ice for all of our members and guests

Duties: Reporting to the Head Ice Technician, the incumbent will:

• Assist with Install and Removal of Ice
• Daily Ice Maintenance of ice. Remove hacks, Pebble, nip the ice, mop, etc.
• Help with Quarterly Ice Maintenance (may involve weekend or overnight)
• Clean and put away ice equipment after each use
• Minor Housekeeping duties and restock arena supplies
• Assist other WCC staff with tasks as needed
• Other duties as assigned by the Head Ice Technician

Skills: While the Whitby Curling Club will train the incumbent in both the ice duties and facility duties, there are certain characteristics we’re looking for:

• Assistant Ice Technician Training / Experience an Asset but will train.
• 18 years of age or older
• Dependable
• Hard worker
• Takes initiative
• Good work ethic

Hours of Work: The regular working hours will be varied but regular, during the curling season (October to April).
There will be requests for additional working hours throughout the season and sometimes during the summer months.
Compensation: Compensation will be negotiated based on qualifications.
Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 months
Pay: $17.40-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed

• As part of our Ice Maintenance Schedule, there may be Weekend of Overnight Shifts Required. Are you willing to work the occasional weekend and overnight shift as needed for Routine Ice Maintenance (Notice will be provided well in advance)?
• If you are selected, and you want to pursue it, Certificate Training is available. Would you be willing to consider this training? It is usually conducted out of town and in the summer. (Upon successful completion of the course, your costs would be reimbursed.)
