We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Library: Major Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following: Overseeing the operations, preservation and organization of university archives and special collections in the University Library in accordance with accepted archival standards and procedures; Appraising archival collections and curating important university documents in the University Library to determine their function, authenticity, and evidentiary value for permanent record keeping; Developing, maintaining, and overseeing the disposition of all formal records and historical archives pertaining to the University's work; Determining the appropriate disposition of records, including permanent or temporary storage, preservation methods, or destruction; Overseeing the cataloguing, digitization, and maintenance of archives and special collection materials; Overseeing the operation of the HKMU Museum of Modern Chinese Literature; Assist in exploring and developing collaboration opportunities with internal and external parties to enrich the Library's cultural and historical collections; Planning and developing promotional strategies, marketing materials and library publications via physical and online channels to promote the use of university archives and special collections; Serving on committees and task forces as appropriate; and Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee(s). Candidates Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence: A recognized degree and a postgraduate qualification in archives/special collections management and experience in a university or institutional archives/special collections, OR a postgraduate qualification in library management with specialization in archives/special collections, OR a postgraduate qualification in other appropriate disciplines with significant experience in a university or institutional archive/special collections; With at least 6 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; In-depth knowledge and experience of current trends and best practices in the digital scholarship, archival, special collections and records management fields; proven familiarity with best practices in digitization and content management system; Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing needs; Strong planning, problem-solving and organizational skills; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua; Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work; and Knowledge of WordPress is a plus. Applicants with less relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Librarian II. Candidates without a professional library qualification (e.g. AALIA, ALA, MCLIP, MLIS or equivalent) may be appointed as Manager / Assistant Manager, commensurate with work experience. Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.
