Description

The Assistant Maitre D’ supports the Restaurant Manager in overseeing dining room staff and ensuring an exceptional guest experience in terms of food quality and service, all in line with company policies and service standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional, courteous conduct in all guest and crew interactions, following Celebrity Cruises’ standards of Safety, Service, and Style.
  • Lead, coach, evaluate, and support restaurant staff in collaboration with the Restaurant Manager.
  • Oversee a designated section of the restaurant, managing specific responsibilities as assigned.
  • Coordinate personnel and task assignments during special events like the Midnight Buffet, in collaboration with the Assistant Food Manager.
  • Uphold and promote high standards in food presentation and service; anticipate and fulfill guest needs.
  • Visit all tables in your section daily, ensuring guest satisfaction. Personally manage VIP guests and special requests.
  • Track and manage celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries, arranging amenities accordingly.
  • Report dissatisfied or challenging guests to the Restaurant Manager for follow-up.
  • Enforce appearance, hygiene, and uniform standards among restaurant staff.
  • Have strong knowledge of wines and assist the Sommelier with service when needed.
  • Play an active role in onboarding and training new restaurant staff, helping them integrate into the team.
  • Ensure daily cleaning tasks are completed and regularly inspect your assigned area.
  • Guarantee all health and safety protocols, especially USPH standards, are followed at all times.
  • Report any disciplinary concerns to the Restaurant Manager.
  • Be familiar with time and attendance policies, crew contracts, training requirements, and weekly work hours.
  • Understand the ship’s operating standards to support both guests and crew with any inquiries.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and other assigned duties.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as required by supervisors or management.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • 5–8 years of hospitality management experience, preferably onboard cruise ships.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, especially in multicultural environments.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in guest service strategies and guest satisfaction measurement.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, coaching, and evaluating team performance.
  • Intermediate-level computer literacy required.
  • Basic understanding of accounting concepts like debits/credits and adjustment entries.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent in spoken and written English for effective communication with guests and crew.
  • Knowledge of additional languages like Spanish, French, or German is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Good vision, hearing, and mobility are essential for safety and emergency procedures.
  • Must be physically capable of participating in emergency drills and lifesaving operations.
