Roles & Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager – Credit Underwriting is responsible for evaluating creditworthiness, assessing financial risks, and supporting credit decision-making for retail and/or corporate clients. The role ensures compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management frameworks while maintaining portfolio quality.


Credit Assessment & Underwriting

  • Analyze loan applications, financial statements, and supporting documentation to assess borrower creditworthiness.
  • Conduct detailed credit risk analysis, including income verification, cash flow analysis, and repayment capacity.
  • Evaluate credit proposals for retail, SME, or corporate segments (as applicable) and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies, lending guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Risk Evaluation & Decision Support

  • Identify potential risks and recommend appropriate mitigants.
  • Review credit scores, bureau reports, and financial ratios.
  • Assist in structuring loan proposals, including collateral evaluation and risk grading.
  • Support decision-making by preparing credit appraisal notes and reports.

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Monitor existing credit portfolio performance and highlight early warning signals.
  • Assist in periodic reviews of accounts and limit renewals.
  • Work closely with collections and risk teams to manage delinquent accounts.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with sales and operations teams to obtain required documentation.
  • Coordinate with legal, valuation, and compliance teams for due diligence.
  • Support internal/external audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance underwriting processes and turnaround time.
  • Contribute to automation initiatives and policy updates

Desired Candidate Profile

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of credit analysis, financial statement interpretation, and risk assessment
  • Familiarity with credit bureau reports and risk rating models
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and credit underwriting systems

  • Attention to detail and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines


Educational Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field

  • 5–8 years of experience in credit underwriting, risk assessment, or lending operations
  • Experience in banking, NBFC, or fintech preferred
  • Professional qualifications (CA, CFA, MBA – Finance) preferred
