POSITION: Full-time Exempt
JOB TITLE: Assistant Manager, Park Operations
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Director, Park Management

SUMMARY

Responsible for a variety of volunteer events, park maintenance, operations and weekend support galvanizing volunteer and staff while improving the visitor experience. The position also serves as the Conservancy’s main point of contact in the park on most weekends and is responsible for a variety of day-specific tasks in this regard including serving as first person of contact and action related to Conservancy programmatic needs and maintenance or emergency issues that arise.

The Piedmont Park Conservancy is a donor-funded nonprofit organization working in partnership with the City of Atlanta to ensure Piedmont Park is an iconic park for all in Atlanta/metro Atlanta communities. The Conservancy makes Piedmont Park so much more than a greenspace; we provide an experience.
The Conservancy contributes to the Park’s beautification through detail-focused landscaping, volunteer projects and capital improvements. When visitors to the Park spend time at the Active Oval, dog parks, pool, EnviroVentures Camp, the event facilities and the Green Market, they see the results of just some of the areas we have focused our efforts on.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Assistant Manager of Park Operations to join our team. Because our busiest days are on the weekend, this is a required weekend position working Saturday and Sunday with a Thursday to Monday schedule.
A Typical Day for this position entails leading and working with volunteer groups of up to 20 people on Saturdays and Sundays mulching, weeding or litter clean up. Supporting the venue rentals team by opening/closing facilities and resolving minor issues for those events. Reporting and escalating any emergency situation in the Park to proper authorities and leadership. Leading and supporting large corporate volunteer events on weekdays working with our Volunteer Manager. Coordinating our newly launched tree preservation efforts through scheduling third party tree maintenance companies and updating tree inventory information online. Other activities as time allows include some landscape maintenance and light building maintenance tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Plan and execute small group volunteer events by preparing all materials, tools, safety gear and site work for beautification projects in the Park.
· Help plan and execute large volunteer group events in the park by developing project lists, ordering materials, setting up sites, tools and safety gear for beautification and maintenance projects in the Park.
· Working with the Director of Park Management, develop a prioritized list of projects that improve the aesthetics and health of the Park. Weeding, mulching, planting shrubs/trees/flowers, cleaning signs, picking up litter/bagging overflowing cans, painting/staining, pressure washing are a few of the types of volunteer activities you’ll be planning and doing.
· Open and lock up and serve as an additional point of contact for events renting PPC managed buildings. Available for light event setup/emergency support.
· Weekend Park support on duty. Point of contact for any issues or vendor coordination and access. Monitor the Park for rules or safety violations.
· Conduct pre and post event inspections from events and report damages
· Provide an extra set of hands to perform small landscaping and beautification tasks as well as litter clean up supporting the operations team’s weekly efforts.
· Coordinate and schedule third party tree maintenance companies in support of our tree preservation initiative.
· Lead volunteer teams in turf removal, mulching around trees and pruning of limbs.
· Park Ambassador helping visitors find their way and educating them when asked.
· Help quality control maintenance and landscaping and make recommendations
· Assess field conditions on weekends and update website message.
· Give immediate attention to areas posing risks to life safety of employees and visitors (fire alarms, trip hazards, etc.) and escalate as necessary.
· Assist outside contractors and vendors, including escorting and supervising vendors and contractors to a project in the Park
· Operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy equipment, and power tools relating to general maintenance, grounds maintenance and landscaping.
· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
· Ability to work effectively under pressure and against strict time constraints
· Provide training, guidance and direction to co-workers or volunteers on projects.
· Perform supervisory duties as assigned mostly related to volunteers and third-party contractors on occasion.
· Communicate effectively with co-workers and other employees concerning work orders, problems, questions, requests for assistance, and emergency situations.
· Communicate with supervisor any problems that arise; accept supervisory instruction and direction.
· Plan and organize daily work routine; establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with needs.
· Prepare/generate maintenance records, work reports, or other documentation.
· Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
· Maintain a professional image, which represents the philosophy of the Piedmont Park Conservancy with emphasis upon providing Park visitors with the highest level of customer service deemed possible.

· High School Diploma or G.E.D.
· 2 years or more of full-time experience performing event management, volunteer management, landscaping, or park operations
· 2 years or more leading small groups or teams
· Must be able to utilize a PC, Microsoft Office, and manage emails.
· Must be able to utilize work order system/software.
· Must be comfortable and able to work on a ladder
· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.
