Description
The Assistant Manager (Physics Education and Demonstration) is responsible for developing and delivering visually engaging and pedagogically effective physics demonstrations to support undergraduate teaching. The incumbent will establish a structured demonstration system, build a categorized demo bank aligned with core physics topics, and work closely with faculty to integrate demos into lectures. Responsibilities include managing a demo inventory, setting up and presenting demos in lectures, procuring and maintaining equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and enhancing student engagement through interactive demonstration experiences. Additionally, the role provides technical support for teaching labs and supports divisional outreach events (e.g. Open House, lab visits, school talks) and participates in research initiatives related to physics education and demonstration development. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain a physics lecture demonstration system and booking platform. Design, build, and document effective and safe demonstrations across physics topics. Support faculty by recommending and delivering appropriate demos during lectures. Procure, maintain and organize demo inventory, perform regular checks, and minor repairs. Provide basic technical support for teaching labs, including troubleshooting and TA training. Facilitate discussions to reinforce students’ conceptual understanding. Stay up to date with advances in physics education and demo techniques. Contribute to outreach events and maintain demo usage records and documentation. Support research or innovation projects related to demonstration or teaching. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics or a closely related field. Strong foundational knowledge in undergraduate-level physics. Practical hands-on skills in major physics topics (e.g., electronics, optics, mechanical setups). Familiarity with lab instrumentation and troubleshooting common technical issues. Understanding of health and safety standards in a teaching or lab environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially with students and faculty. Organized, creative, and passionate about teaching and science communication. Familiarity with education technology, demo video creation and content sharing platforms (e.g. YouTube, TikTok, etc.) is a plus. Interest in pedagogy and a passion for improving student engagement. Good to Have Experience in science demonstration, public engagement, or teaching support. Experience working in teaching laboratories, maker spaces, or technical workshops.
