Description

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

You will be a Qualified Accountant with ICAEW, ACCA or similar, and be someone who has or has an interest in:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of all technical accounting standards, principles and practices, with experience of handling technical accounting queries
  • Delivered technical accounting and other training to part-qualified and qualified accountants, from trainees through to partners
  • Experience of conducting cold file reviews and the desire to enhance quality of what we do, to challenge the status quo and continuously improve
  • Worked on projects that may involve ethical, confidential and potentially sensitive matters
  • Awareness of risk and compliance in an accountancy firm, either from a client team or firmwide perspective, including client due diligence (for AML purposes), client contracts and data protection
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written – with the ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders, adapting communication style accordingly
  • High attention to detail, considered approach, a curious mindset and the ability to work to tight deadlines

We understand that not everyone will come with these exact requirements. If your experience isn’t a complete match but you feel you could bring a lot to AG, we’d still encourage you to apply so that we can learn more about you!

Responsibilities

We’re looking for an Assistant Manager to join our internal department, responsible for quality, risk and compliance matters for Albert Goodman. This is a unique role for a qualified accountant with a passion for quality and a risk mindset. The role is on a full-time basis and can be based in our Taunton or Bristol offices.

The role will entail:

  • Supporting all quality, risk and compliance activities, which will include supporting on projects and dealing with queries relating to AML / client due diligence, client contracting and data protection
  • Being the first point of contact on all technical accounting matters throughout the firm, with strong links to our Audit and Business Services teams
  • Delivery of technical accounting and auditing training to teams across the firm, to improve quality of what we do and to reflect changes in financial reporting
  • Working within a small team as well as regular liaison with client teams across the firm
  • Managing the practice assurance (cold file) review process for the firm
  • Supporting on any projects arising out of ethical reports, as well as working with the Ethics Partner on any conflicts of interest

We’ll look to you to provide a professional, friendly, and helpful service to our clients and colleagues. You’ll get to work with a variety of people across AG, and of course our clients as well, so people skills and the ability to build relationships will be a big part of this role.
While this is a role for an Assistant Manager, due to the continued growth of the firm and of the Quality, Risk & Compliance team, there is potential for career progression to Manager and beyond for the right candidate.
